Following an influx of new investment, Belfast has undergone an amazing transformation in recent years. Voted a ‘must-see visitor destination’ by Lonely Planet in 2006, it has since become a major tourist centre in northern Europe.  This friendly cosmopolitan city has much to offer which is why it’s such a popular choice with those seeking a short city break.

Belfast is situated on the north-east coast of Ireland below Cave Hill and the Black Mountain. Here, great ships of the past like the Titanic, the Olympic and the Britannic, were built and launched and the world-famous Irish Linen is still widely available.

With a vast range of attractions on offer in the city and a stunning landscape to explore there is plenty to do on a short break.  You’ll discover a city rich in historical and cultural diversity.  Also evident in the city is a strong sense of pride.  The local people are immensely proud of their city and welcome visitors with open arms.  Many people actually feel that the hospitality of the local people is so warm and genuine that they return to Belfast purely to enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

There are plenty of things to do with a wide selection of finest restaurants, vibrant bars, world class shopping and animated nightlife. With so much on offer it’s no wonder that the city is so popular for short city breaks; but people don’t just come here nightlife.  Belfast has much to offer in terms of its rural scenery and natural beauty. Spoilt for choice with numerous historic castles and forts, this historical and culturally rich city has so much to offer. Belfast is also perfectly located to act as a gateway to the beautiful country of Ireland, with scenic drives taking you to some of the country’s natural, cultural and historical attractions.

One of the great things about Belfast is that many of its attractions are either free or very reasonably priced, making a trip to the city both entertaining and affordable.  Whether you are interested in arts and museums, historical buildings or beautifully located castles you’ll find something that makes your break special. All the city attractions are within easy reach of one another and most can be reached by foot.  For those looking to explore slightly further afield there is the added benefit of cycling lanes available giving easy access to some of the city’s beautiful parks.

Getting to Belfast by air is very easy and more often than not, very affordable with a wide range of cheap flights available throughout the year.  Flights to Belfast from the UK take around an hour and 15 minutes and are available from most UK airports.  Belfast boasts two airports; the George Best Belfast City Airport, which is two miles from Belfast’s city centre and the Belfast International Airport, which is eighteen miles from the city centre.  Both airports have excellent transport links on hand to get you to the city centre.

It is an exceptionally beautiful city and it is ideally located should you wish to explore further afield and see what Northern Ireland has to offer.
