Canary Islands Holidays

It can be little wonder that Canary Islands holidays are so popular, perhaps the main reason for the huge numbers of visitors who arrive at each of the Islands International airports every year, is perhaps geography. Quite simply the Canary Islands are the nearest area of the world to mainland Europe that offers truly year-round good weather. In fact they are often referred to as the islands of eternal spring time.

Located out in the Atlantic, off the Saharan Coast this little archipelago offers Europeans and the rest of the world an incredible selection of different holiday experiences.

Each of the islands have their own particular flavour, you can select an away from it all, quiet and secluded holiday where nothing will disturb your peace. Alternatively you can select a wild nightlife destination that offers bars clubs and restaurants to suit every night owls needs.

The terrain is generally very dry on all of the islands, but each does offer different variations, for example in the south of Tenerife it is like a rocky desert, with the landscape resembling another planet, that is presumably why part of the original Star Wars movies were filmed on Tenerife.

Yet a quick drive to the north of the island and you are in a subtropical paradise, which is green and humid, and it is impossible to get away from the endless miles of banana translations that thrive on this part of the island.

There is also an endless variety of accommodation options; many people consider a self catering apartment to be the perfect residence for the Canaries. Others prefer 5 star holidays with all the comforts imaginable, which are also available at numerous high-quality resorts and hotels spread throughout the island chain. There are also numerous smaller hotels and hostels catering for those on a more limited budget.

If it’s action that you are looking for, then again the Canaries will not disappoint. The selection of activities available is mind boggling, just a few examples would be like paragliding, surfing, caving skin diving, game fishing out in the Atlantic, mountaineering and hiking, as well as mountain biking and go-karting.

There is also a large amount of natural wonders to enjoy including trips to the peaks of active volcanoes, or enjoying the stunning high rocky ocean side cliffs, lush green valleys, volcanic cave systems, and so much more.

Each island has its own specific brand of attractions; Tenerife is well-known for its beautiful bays encasing black volcanic sand. As well as the hectic nightlife of Las Americas, or the more sedate settings of the small resorts dotted around its coast.

La Gomera is a far more traditional destination which is home to ancient hamlets and bizarrely shaped cliff faces, it is also home to the World Heritage site of Garajonay National Park. On Fuertiventura you can enjoy some enlightenment with and historical tour of the island in order to enjoy very traditional Canary and arts and crafts.

So as you can see a small group of islands off the coast of Africa has a very varied selection of things to see and enjoy that are sure to please visitors of all tastes.
