Magaluf, Majorca
Situated on the south west coast of Majorca, and lying at the western end of Palma bay, Magaluf is one of the two largest resort developments in this area. It is approximately 15 kilometres from Palma the island’s capital city. Plenty of transport locally means that staying here you get the best of the location, as well as easy access to Palma and many of the other area nearby.
Magaluf is made up of three main beach areas all of which have beautiful white sands and are lined with small bars, shops and other amenities. Magaluf originally became popular in the 1980’s for its 18-30 holidays, and it’s still popular with this age group today, but it has since become popular with families and older couples too. It is still an area to go if you’re looking for an action packed holiday rather than a quiet one, but today is somewhat more family friendly than 30 years ago.
During the daytime, Magaluf is a great area for water sports, with scuba diving, jet skiing, wind surfing and many other water sports being popular here for novices and experts alike. Other activities that you can partake in locally include things such as golf, horse riding, and go karting at the local kart track. Actually, for an interesting experience, the kart track is open till midnight meaning you can have a go at karting by flood light if you want to as well as during the daylight hours.
A trip out on a glass bottomed boat around the coastal waters nearby is an experience worth taking. The waters here are clear and easy to see down into, and there are many fish and other sea creatures which live here, and the aquatic life is colourful and interesting.
Ten minutes away from Magaluf is the Western water park which is one of the best water parks in Majorca and the only western themed one. There is a wide variety of water rides here that you can enjoy, from La Bestia (The Beast) a wild thirty metre high water drop, to much tamer rides suitable for younger children. Oliver’s water show is a firm family favourite here, and you’ll get to see acrobats showing off in the water doing stunts you didn’t think were possible.
Food here is a real mixture, there are restaurants selling local traditional food, and those selling a variety of international fare too from Indian and Chinese to Spanish, English and more. You’ll also find a selection of fast food outlets here as well meaning that there’s something for everyone’s taste.
At night, the area provides a very lively atmosphere with pubs, clubs and discos where you can party till the early hours of the morning, the centre of this is the Punta Ballena strip, and you can buy a Magaluf club pass which will give you entry to five of the main clubs in the area for around 12 euros.
